Always a threat to Liberty: Standing Armies

The Father of the U.S. Constitution (James Madison) said it best:

A standing military force, with an overgrown Executive will not long be safe companions to liberty. The means of defence against foreign danger, have been always the instruments of tyranny at home. Among the Romans it was a standing maxim to excite a war, whenever a revolt was apprehended. Throughout all Europe, the armies kept up under the pretext of defending, have enslaved the people.

Of all the enemies to public liberty, war is perhaps the most to be dreaded because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes; and armies, and debts, and taxes are the known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few.

Thomas Jefferson also was opposed to the idea of standing armies during peacetime:

There are instruments so dangerous to the rights of the nation and which place them so totally at the mercy of their governors that those governors, whether legislative or executive, should be restrained from keeping such instruments on foot but in well-defined cases. Such an instrument is a standing army.

Were armies to be raised whenever a speck of war is visible in our horizon, we never should have been without them. Our resources would have been exhausted on dangers which have never happened, instead of being reserved for what is really to take place.

Nor is it conceived needful or safe that a standing army should be kept up in time of peace.

In case any of you crazy Republican lurkers and other opponents of Liberty want to accuse me of being anti-American or being in bed with the terrorists, eat a dick. You can clearly see that two of the founding fathers (and both former U.S. Presidents) were strongly opposed to standing armies. Obviously, we should revisit the notion and consider changing our current policies... we've strayed from the principles of Liberty that founded this country.

That's unless you're the type that hates Liberty (and war gives you a hard-on).

Aint that sump'n? The people love Ron Paul!

Democrats AND Republican alike. Read the blogs, read the youtube comments out there. I'm reading about left-wing youngsters actually agreeing with their far-right grandparents and elders on Ron Paul. Add to the fact that Ron Paul's web activity, web hits, and grassroots attention is exploding. Even the ladies on The View were debating and supporting Ron Paul.

What is so sad (and obvious the the American Public) is how the traditional media is shitting on Paul. They are shooting themselves in the foot over this. That's why Ron Paul's name is the most searched item on Technorati (the unofficial portal for the blogosphere) because "we the people" are the only ones providing the honest coverage of the Ron Paul Revolution.

I'll have to confess that I just gave $25 to Ron Paul's campaign thru his website. That's my first political donation of the 2008 cycle. And here I was thinking that maybe Bill Richardson or Obama was gonna get my cash first. When people speak the truth funny things happen. I want to wait and see how this long election turns out before I commit any more money to any candidate.

By the way, Ron Paul is more popular on YouTube than ANY candidate in this election.. except for Obama. Imagine that!

Ron Paul Kicks Everyone's ASS!

Despite the crowd of weirdo's at the 2nd Republican debate who cheered Rudy Guliani, any sane person will undoubtedly see that Ron Paul handed Rudy his ass on a plate for being ignorant about the causes of 9/11.

I've mentioned Ron Paul before in this blog and while I do not agree with him 100% of the time I do appreciate his presence in the presidential race.

Why do I even like the guy in first place? Check out that video above. Ron basically says that the Federal Reserve is robbing the poor and middle class of their spending power when the central bank pulls money out of its ass.

While everyone else is running their campaigns fearing dumb-fuck extremists who shit in caves, Ron Paul actually bases his campaign on shutting down this government thievery (among other things) that has gone on for too long.

Speaking of sound money, check out Ithaca's Hours. Imagine that... money that is actually worth something!
