Recepie for Success: Ron Paul President + Democratic Congress

Over at LewRockwell.com they offer an interview with presidential candidate Ron Paul. Some Democrats fear that his goals to reduce the size (and spending) of the federal government would lead to an attack on social services such as welfare and Medicare. Here Paul gives his word (even Jon Stewart from the Daily Show knows Paul is consistent on keeping his word) that Ron Paul can work with Democrats to achieve what's best for our country without cutting benefits for the poor.

Here is Ron Paul in his own words:

[On Working with Dennis Kucinich] I think I will continue to work with him [Dennis] the best we can. And you know, take some of the liberal welfare spending that Dennis might support more than I. But you know, I’m not hostile toward that. If I can save the money from overseas, put some of it against the deficit, end up with a net reduction in the size of the budget, at the same time stopping a war, I may well be very open to funding some of these programs. Because I’m not out to gut some of these programs that have taught people to be very dependent on the government, like medical care. I mean, that’s not my goal. I’ve never run for office with the goal of slashing [those programs] even though philosophically I don’t think it’s the best way to deliver services and prosperity to poor people.

'Nuff Said!

A Democratic Congress will never let social services get slashed. Working together with a Ron Paul administration we can finally see the dismantling of the Military Industrial Complex, the Federal Reserve, and the Big Corporate / Big Government scams that have been robbing the poor and middle class of their wealth and liberty for so long.

Check out Ron Paul's recent visit to the Daily Show:

I think you are correct. Most of the argument comes from a fear of the Imperial Presidency, as if we were coronating a King rather than electing a President.

Fortunately, a President cannot rule by edict (GWB notwithstanding), but has to work with Congress. Forcing a supermajority on bills not specifically authorized by the Constitution can only work to our benefit.

Think of it as "Intelligent Gridlock."

My only fear is that someone like Ron Paul who is consistent and anti-establishment would get JFK'ed by the establishment if he gets too far in doing what's right to stop this fascists police state that we live in.

I agree with everything Ron Paul says when it comes to foreign policy, but on domestic policy, he has some crazy ideas. Like, he would abolish the US postal service and open that service up to the "markets". A 41 cent stamp letter to Cali under those circumstances could be priced at whatever company decides it should be ($41 maybe)?

Then, he wants to abolish the tax code. It would take more than just a comment space to show you how this would screw the poor, but I do prepare taxes, and have done so for 10 years so I know it would.

Not only that, under Ron Paul, net neutrality would be no more, and blogs like this one and many others would be axed for corporate loudmouths who would win out all in the name of the "market competition".

So, I would say be careful when it comes to ANY Republican, even him.

Robert, when Ron Paul means opening up the postal service to the "markets" he refers to the existing example where UPS and FedEx compete with the USPS and out deliver them and beat their parcel prices in many cases. If they could deliver mail for 30 cents would that not help out the consumer?

As far as taxes are concerned the Federal Income tax is practically government theft. If the poor and middle class had NO income tax to pay would that not also be a benefit?

As far as net neutrality Ron Paul never ever said he'd allow the net to be tampered with. Why do you think he's the MOST popular candidate of ALL on YouTube and kicking ass on spots like MySpace and FaceBook? The net loves Paul because he champions our liberty and privacy on the internet. Read some internet blogs and tech sites and you'll see the love is there for Ron Paul.

I agree that Republicans are the scum of the Earth (no offense to scum) but Paul is a different phenomenon all together. I've been reading about him (and reading his articles) way before the presidential campaign and I'll say that he is consistent with his word and votes in congress.

You got your heart in the right place Robert, but your impression of Ron Paul is a bit misguided. The only beef I have with Paul is his immigration policy, but I know the Dems would make sure that doesn't get too crazy either.

Thanks for commenting!
