Mos Def arrested over Hip Hop

Pure Garbage!!
Mos Def was arrested Aug. 31 after MTV's Video Music Awards for an impromptu performance he gave where he did not have authorization to perform outside of Radio City Music Hall in New York.

Born Dante Smith, Mos Def was charged with disorderly conduct after performing his 2005 song "Katrina Clap" on a flatbed truck for a crowd outside of the event.

"Katrina Clap" is a freestyle rhyme criticizing the Bush administration's response to the Hurricane Katrina disaster.

According to reports, members of the rapper's entourage were arrested as well.

Mos Def was released the morning of Sept. 1.

The "Katrina Clap" song is still sitting in my iPod since I blogged about it a while ago. Fascism is trying to go mainstream and they'll silence anyone who'll speak out and call them on their bullshit. We need more emcees like the mighty Mos to make our progressive voices louder in Hip Hop!

Chico, I hadn't heard about this, but it doesn't surprise me. Every day this country becomes more and more of a police state. If Mos Def had been rapping about what a bad ass, terrorist-fighting hero Bush was, the White House would have been blaring that on the front lawn. It's all about propaganda--what information do you want to reach the public? Definitely not all the shit you did wrong.
