God bless Coretta

Coretta Scott King, the first lady of the Civil Rights Movement has passed on today to sip wine with her husband Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., play cards with Ghandi and a few rounds of Nintendo with Jesus.

Who knows where our cherished fighters for peace, freedom, equality and justice go when they pass away but for sure they remain in our hearts in our minds.

All of the luxuries we enjoy in this so-called "free" nation were fought for by the bravest of the bravest. Coretta Scott King was the fearless wife who continued Dr. King's fight after his assassination and even helped land him his own national Holiday. God bless her soul. Peace!

Update: Rhodian Attic has a great collection of Coretta & Martin Luther King pics!

Nice. Makes me not worry about death... it also makes me want to ensure I do something important with my life... except for Jesus, they were ordinary people with extraordinary vision.

I am just struck by the fact that she passed away on the very same day that Alito was made a Justice. After giving her entire life to fighting for civil rights and being forced to see her husband murdered for daring to fight for civil rights, maybe her poor heart and soul couldn't bear to be here any longer when a rabid racist like Alito was going to sit on the court of "last resort" for Americans when their civil rights have been violated.

Don't remind me of Scalito... we need to solidify our movement, keep winning elections and eventually the old farts on the Supreme Court will retire and we'll have some moderate and fair-minded Judges ensuring that real Justice prevails. Our struggle is long but it's worth it.
